At the Marion Arts Festival, Everyone’s an Artist!
As a program of the Marion Arts Festival, the annual creation of
a participatory public art piece – known as "Art in the
Depot" – offers every community member the opportunity
to contribute hands-on to the production of what will become a Marion
public art treasure!
Now entering its eighth year, past “Depot” projects
include a mosaic featuring the city’s historic business district
at the Marion Heritage Center, and a handmade paper piece called
“Bookweave,” created last year for the Marion Public
Library.
The 2008 "Art in the Depot" program will feature guest
artist Jim Kasper, an internationally known ceramicist from Tipton,
Iowa. Festival attendees are invited to work with Kasper and festival
volunteers to create clay tiles that will subsequently be fired
and attached to a monolithic sculptural form for the lobby of Marion’s
new City Hall. A related Make & Take activity involving the
construction of 3-D forms will provide artistic challenges for all!

Support for the "Art in the Depot" program is provided
by Farmers State Bank. Their vision for the Marion community has
been the inspiration for each and every “Art in the Depot”
project, and we thank them for their commitment to this valued aspect
of festival fun.
It’s
